UNDERGROUND MUSEUM OF THE KING KB3 MINE IN THETFORD MINES
Institutional
Customer : Musée minéralogique de Thetford Mines
Location : Thetford Mines
Mandate : General contractor
Year : 2020
Project features : 120 feet long
The project consists of building an underground gallery by opening a trench of more than three meters deep over a distance of 120 feet, which will be entirely covered once completed. The preliminary concept for this gallery provides for the creation of a museum trail that will explain the history of mining at the former King-Beaver 3 (KB3) mine in four key eras: 1910, 1930, 1960 and 1980. The gallery will extend from the entrance via le Chevalement to its exit at the gobage workshop (to be built later on).
The other part of the project consists of the development of an urban park which involves various works of backfilling, earthworks, installation of street furniture and protective fences, signage, walking and cycling paths.
This project aims to restore this former urban mining park, abandoned since 1986, to make it a second heritage attraction in Thetford Mines.
